Base material
Verify alloy/grade, shape, thickness, stock length, quantity and waste allowance. Mark any pieces that have mill scale, galvanizing, coatings or contamination requiring special handling.
Filler and shielding
Match electrode/wire/filler and gas to the actual base metal and process. Confirm wire diameter, contact tips, electrode diameter and storage requirements.
Cutting and prep
Plan saw blades, cutoff wheels, flap discs, grinding wheels, drill bits/cutters, layout fluid and deburring tools.
Fit-up and fixturing
Clamps, squares, magnets, spacers and a flat reference surface often save more time than an extra welding accessory.
PPE and finishing
Helmet, gloves, eye/hearing protection, ventilation, fire protection and finishing supplies should be part of the job plan.
